Try This Note Taking Strategy

Notability templates have a super weapon you should leverage...

Think of this like a GRWM but instead it’s a TNWM (Take Notes With Me) post…

Note taking isn’t an exact science. In fact, there’s so many methods and templates to use that it can be a bit daunting to zone in on “the perfect one” for you.

My advice…experiment with different styles and templates. Find the one that works for you but DO NOT wait until class. Get some practice first.

With that being said, try my audio lecture paired with the Cornell notes I took on it below. Notability has a free Cornell lecture template. Here’s how you use it…

Step 1 (Notes)

Take notes and worry less about how clean or organized it is. Concern yourself more with just getting information down.

Step 2 (Prompts, Cues, and Questions)

These are prompts, cues, and questions you will use later to study/ review. Make them unique to you…the weirder, the better. The goal is to be able to cover up the right side (Step 1) part of the notes and use only the things you wrote in Step 2 to review the content.

Step 3 (Summarize)

This can be done whenever is feasible but preferably after class when you have a chance to review your notes. Summarize them. You can summarize the entire lecture or a page at a time. I’ve found summarizing a page at a time will help consolidate a LOT of information into very little.

CHF Cornell Notes

Before you look too deeply into this note, try to listen to my very brief overview of CHF and take notes using your own system first. Then, compare it to this strategy of note taking.

I posted a little bit about studying here…

I also posted some pointers on how you can Master ANY Domain bit-by-bit

Final Points

Note taking is an art…it’s a science…it can be weird…it can be awkward. We get taught a little bit here and there along the way. We somehow cobble everything together to make it work but if you build yourself a system…something that will enhance your attention and enable you to consolidate a lot of information at once, you’ll do yourself a major favor.
